John Dickson's expertise was at the forefront of the Tory Burch Fall/Winter 2022 Ready-to-Wear fashion show in New York City, where he was tasked by ER-Productions with creating a stunning laser backdrop. The show, set against the iconic New Yorker Hotel, aimed to encapsulate the vibrant essence of women's lives, using the city's dynamic backdrop as a canvas for this visual feast.
The endeavor was not without its challenges, as the team faced the harsh winter elements atop the Hudson Commons building, with sub-freezing temperatures and snow complicating the setup. The irregular surface of the New Yorker Hotel added another layer of complexity, requiring precise adjustments to achieve seamless projections of the Tory Burch logo and thematic elements. Furthermore, for safety and compliance, it was necessary to vacate seven floors of the hotel to ensure there was no risk of exposure to the laser light.
To overcome these obstacles, Dickson and his team capitalized on the advanced capabilities of 12 Laser Animation Phaenon projectors. Known for their low divergence and exceptional beam quality, these projectors ensured that the images remained focused and crisp, regardless of distance or the hotel's uneven surface. The Tory Burch logo, in particular, was intricately split across multiple lasers to maintain its clarity and brightness, significantly enhancing the visual impact of the show.
The result was a captivating laser backdrop that not only complemented the fashion show but also paid homage to New York City itself. The laser projections beautifully intertwined with the city's skyline, embodying Tory Burch's tribute to the city's enduring spirit. This project demonstrated the innovative application of laser technology in live events, creating an unforgettable visual experience that resonated with all attendees and set a new benchmark for fashion event presentations.
